After 36 years, the World Rowing Indoor Championships is moving from Boston, MA to the Washington, D.C area in 2018. Moving the World Rowing Indoor Championships will provide opportunity for more people to participate in the race, and help build greater interest in the sport.

About Erg Sprints

Since 1986, Erg Sprints has grown into the largest juniors indoor rowing event – and the second largest indoor rowing competition – in the world. In 2017 over 1,800 athletes from 132 clubs participated in juniors, collegiate, open, masters, and para events. In 2018, Erg Sprints is staging the first-ever World Rowing Indoor Championships, in partnership with World Rowing, USRowing, and Concept2.

Why is the World Rowing Indoor Championship moving from Boston?

Why Alexandria, Virginia?

The City of Alexandria is on the south bank of the Potomac River across from Washington, D.C. Old Town Alexandria, which pre-dates Washington by 40 years, is a vibrant area of historic houses, hotels, shops, restaurants, museums, art and antique galleries.

I’ve raced Erg Sprints before. How will the this year’s event be different?

Indoor racing will span two days, including the usual World Rowing Indoor Championship 2000m and para rowing events along with traditional Erg Sprints events: marathon and half-marathon, 20-minute junior and 30-minute open/masters rows, 500 meter sprints, relays, parent/child and kids rows.
